Audit firms are constantly competing to obtain public company clients. As of May 14, 2023, there were 258 firms conducting audits for 6,950 Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registrants. Continuing the upward trend seen in the 2022 analysis, this represents a 4.5% increase in population. 2023 is the fourth year in a row we’ve observed an increase in SEC registrants. The auditors with the most SEC registrant clients were EY, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Marcum, Grant Thornton, BDO, BF Borgers, Withum and RSM.
