How Internal Audit Can Ensure Accurate and Consistent Hospital Charges
By auditing the charge master maintenance process, internal audit can provide assurance that the hospital has a logical, structured and authorized process of adding, changing and/or deleting charge codes, descriptions, prices and CPT (Current Procedure Terminology)/HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) codes.
The objectives of this audit program are to analyze and evaluate the adequacy of the charge master maintenance process to verify that all charges are developed in accordance with hospital policy and philosophy, to determine the degree of compliance by employees with administrative and financial policies as prescribed by management, etc.
